The Dallas Mavericks have their first offensive problem of the NBA season after Kyrie Irving was doubled and pressured all first half in the Mavs’ season opener against the Houston Rockets. Can Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving take over earlier, and can the Mavs’ share-the-ball offense work when defenses load up on their two stars?
The Dallas Mavericks have their first offensive problem of the NBA season after Kyrie Irving was doubled and pressured all first half in the Mavs’ season opener against the Houston Rockets. Can Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving take over earlier, and can the Mavs’ share-the-ball offense work when defenses load up on their two stars?
Nick Angstadt breaks down how the Houston Rockets blitzed Kyrie Irving, why Cooper Flagg has to be the release valve after his 32-point night, and why the Dallas Mavericks can’t wait until the third quarter to lean on their stars. Nick digs into the quarter-by-quarter splits for Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving, Dusty May’s push to create advantages early in the shot clock, and what it all means for PJ Washington, Naji Marshall, Max Christie, Marcus Sasser, and Morez Johnson Jr. Is the Mavs’ egalitarian offense the answer, or do Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving need to eat first?
